How to Enable and Moderate Q&A in Session

Enable and use the Q&A feature located within the tools menu to allow participants to ask questions outside of the chat for easy sorting and interactions. You can also:

  • Upvote a question
  • Ask a question anonymously
  • Filter by newest, oldest, most popular
  • Mark questions answered (Hosts and room owners)
  • Highlight questions on stage (Hosts and room owners)

How to Enable the Q&A feature

Room owners and hosts, ensure that you join the Session room using your room owner account or join using the host link.

The Q&A tab cannot be disabled through the tools menu once it has been enabled and questions are asked. However, you can prevent more questions from being asked by toggling off the Allow new questions option within the Q&A panel.

Once inside the room;

  • Click on the tools icon at the bottom right

  • Click on Enable on the window that appears to enable the Q&A feature.

- All participants will be notified that Q&A via a toast will appear at the top of the screen as shown below:

- A Q&A tab will then appear at the bottom right next to the participants icon for everyone

Managing/Moderating the Q&A Tab

Once Q&A is enabled, the first thing that you may notice is that you can allow and restrict participants from adding new questions. This is toggled on by default when you enable Q&A in your room.

This comes in handy if you want to have a cut-off time for the submission of questions. 

Filtering and Sorting Questions

Session makes it super easy to moderate the Q&A tab. To filter (show specific) questions,

  • Simply open the Q&A tab by clicking on the icon at the bottom right.
  • Click on the drop-down icon next to Show
  • Choose to show All questions, Unanswered questions, or Answered questions

Similarly, to sort the questions;

  • Simply open the Q&A tab by clicking on the icon at the bottom right.
  • Click on the drop-down icon next to Sort by
  • Choose to sort the questions by selecting Popular (determined by the number of upvotes that a question has), Newest first (default option), or Oldest first

Marking a Question as Answered/Unanswered

Mark questions as answered so that you can easily manage the Q&A segment of your session or webinar. To do this:

  • Open the Q&A tab by clicking on the icon at the bottom right
  • Locate the question
  • Place your cursor on the question then click on the check mark to mark it as answered

Questions marked as answered will have an Answered tag on them.

If you need to mark a question as unanswered, you can do so by placing your cursor over the question and clicking on the checkmark icon.

Highlighting a Question on "Stage"

You can show a question on stage in any room no matter the theme. 

  • Open the Q&A tab
  • Place your cursor over the question that you would like to highlight on stage
  • Click on the Highlight question icon

This is how it will look on stage! You'll be able to see the name and avatar of who asked the question, along with the question. If it was asked anonymously, it will say Anonymous.

Removing Highlighted Question from the "Stage"

  • To remove a highlighted question from the stage, locate the question in the Q&A tab. (It will be highlighted)
  • Hover over it with your cursor and click on the Stop highlighting question icon

Deleting Questions

Hosts and room owners can delete any question that has been asked.

Important: Deleted questions cannot be recovered.

Here's how!

  • Open the Q&A tab by clicking on Q&A at the bottom right
  • Place your cursor over the question that you would like to delete
  • Click on the delete icon (trash can)

  • That's it.

Things to note

  • Hosts and room owners can manage the Q&A feature collaboratively. It's not restricted to the host that enabled the feature.
  • All participants can upvote a question.
  • Participants can delete a question that they asked. They cannot delete other questions.
  • Questions asked in the Q&A tab will be included in the history/insights for the room or webinar. Deleted questions are not stored here though.
